Public reporting states that an Ionia County jury convicted Matthew in 2021 of first-degree murder (felony murder) and first-degree child abuse in connection with the 2020 death of 2-year-old Colton Sceviour.

According to a September 3, 2026 WILX News 10 report, Edward Joseph Smith was arraigned in Ingham County on a charge of open murder as a second habitual offender in connection with the August 20 death of Daniel Lusk in downtown Lansing.

Remembered in prayer
Daniel Duane Lusk, of Lansing, Michigan, died unexpectedly on August 20, 2026, at age 22. His obituary names his parents, Brenda Marie Franklin and Dean Edwin Lusk, and remembers his life beginning in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Loved ones who shared public tributes remembered Daniel with affection: as a joy to be around, someone who shared laughter and close conversations, and someone whose loss is deeply felt by family, friends, and his Bishop Baraga Catholic School community.
We hold Daniel, his family, and all who grieve him in prayer. In every difficult situation, this ministry seeks to remember the humanity, suffering, and dignity of every person affected.
